Note:
Due to low adoption rates and lack of demand, the II-Basic service offering is being retired. The goal of the II-Basic offering was to provide a less costly alternative to the Enterprise II offering. However, since its introduction, adoption has been modest. Maintaining dual services has proven to counteract the core principles that make the Enterprise II attractive and affordable.

Description: The original Intelligent Infrastructure was designed to host the most demanding IU enterprise applications to serve thousands of concurrent customers. We are recasting this service as II-Enterprise. For those use cases which involve smaller workloads and less scalability, we are creating an alternate service: Intelligent Infrastructure - BASIC (II-Basic). By leveraging our existing Microsoft software site license and limiting scalability/performance, we are reducing overall cost of the new service by 50%. II-Basic may or may not fit your specific hosting needs; we will publish guidelines to help choose the best delivery option.

Outcome: Provide a lower cost virtual hosting solution to meet the needs of less demanding application use cases.

Milestones and status:

  • March 2013: Proposal approved
  • April 2013: Server and rack equipment ordered
  • May 2013: II-Basic design and configuration using test equipment
  • June 2013: Production equipment installed
  • July 2013: Software installation and configuration
  • August 2013: Integration testing
  • September 2013: Production Hyper-V environment fully established
  • October 2013: Begin early adopter trials (by invitation)
  • October 2013: Share information about II-Basic at the Statewide IT Conference
  • November 2013: Provisioning and billing modifications implemented
  • January 2014: II-Basic full deployment and general availability

Comment process: Email Michael Floyd.

Benefits:

  • Cost reduction: The base configuration of II-Basic will be priced at 1/2 the cost of II-Enterprise.
  • For appropriate use cases, II-Basic can offer a viable solution to assist departments with IT-28 compliance. Note that II-Basic is not designed to host applications requiring PCI/DSS compliance.
