Setting up a telephone conference at IUB and IUPUI

Scheduling a conference call

Telephone conferences allow groups of people in different locations to hold discussions when time, travel, or budget constraints do not allow face-to-face meetings. For general and campus-specific information, including Call Center contact information, or to schedule your conference call, visit the IU Conference Call Services page.

Types of conference calls

The UITS Call Centers at Indiana University Bloomington and IUPUI offer enhanced telephone conference capabilities to all faculty and staff at all IU campuses, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The different types of telephone conferences available are described below:

  • Meet-me conference (IUB/IUPUI)

This type of conference allows parties to connect at a designated time by calling a predetermined telephone number. Callers can participate from any location and do not have to wait by the phone for a conference operator to call. Long distance charges (if any) are the responsibility of each caller participating in the conference.

  • Meet-me 800 conference (IUB/IUPUI)

This type of conference is the same as the Meet-me conference, except that the department initiating the conference call will incur the charge of $0.075 per minute per port for the usage of the 800 line, plus any long distance charges.

  • Operator-assisted conference (IUB/IUPUI)

With an operator-assisted conference call, the conference operator will place the calls to each party, connecting them together. Any long distance charges will be billed to a departmental authorization code provided by the requesting department.

  • SL 100 conference (IUPUI only)

This type of conference call allows up to six parties to connect at a designated time by calling a predetermined telephone number. Callers can participate from any location. Unlike the Meet-me conference, when the first person calls into the conference number, the phone will ring continually until the second person joins the conference.
