Important:
Imail was retired on November 19, 2019. You can no longer access your Imail account and its associated services (for example, calendar and contact lists).
Graduate and professional students are provided Exchange accounts by default, but are also eligible for Gmail at IU accounts.
Note:
Umail is not part of Google at IU. For more, see Manage multiple Google accounts at IU.
Eligibility and creating accounts
All students are eligible to create Umail accounts by following the appropriate instructions below:
- If you're a newly admitted student, create your account by using the Starter Kit; see Create your first IU computing accounts (admitted students, faculty, staff, affiliates, and those returning to IU).
- If you're currently a student, create your account by following the instructions in Get additional IU computing accounts
IU faculty and staff are not eligible for Umail accounts.
- You are required to establish an IU email account and read email sent from IU faculty and administration; see official communications information.
- Manage your mail account settings, such as your preferred email address, at Manage your Email.
Important:
Many students are employed in some capacity by Indiana University and use email in their employment, either to communicate with their co-workers and supervisors, or to carry out their job responsibilities. Getting help
The Support Center provides help for all IU mail systems, including Imail and Umail. Both Microsoft and Google also offer 24/7 support.
