Description: Each summer, in addition to installing new computers on a three-year lifecycle, Student Technology Centers staff at IUPUI and IUB clean the continuing computers, install a new software build for fall semester, and arrange for minor repairs and facilities maintenance of the STCs. On roughly a ten-year lifecycle, each location receives a major renovation, with new data cabling, power, furniture, carpet, and paint. This summer at IUB, starting at the end of Summer I, three classrooms (Business 407 and 417, Fine Arts 137) and two study-only labs (Business 415, Foster Shea 015) were renovated.

Minor renovations are not tracked here, but include:

  • Ballantine 118: Network upgrade, painting, new projector controls
  • Business/SPEA Library 150: New furniture
  • Geology 226: Network upgrade, conversion from Unix to Windows classroom
  • HPER 154, 155: Network upgrade, new projector controls
  • Library 503: New furniture and network upgrade, rearrangement to match footprint of new classroom in LI402
  • Psychology 120: Network upgrade
  • Radio & TV 250: Network upgrade

Outcome: Rejuvenated surroundings, however subtly, foster an improved atmosphere for learning. Additionally, we are adding seats in the two Business classrooms, helping KSB achieve goals of instructional efficiency. In Foster Shea, the International Living-Learning Center, activity in the computer lab has increased 80% in the past two years. Residential Programs and Services is contributing the adjacent dorm room to double the size of the lab in recognition of its popularity.
