Configuring your Mac OS X computer to obtain an IP address automatically at IUB and IUPUI using DHCP

To automatically obtain an IP address, your Mac OS X computer must be connected to a network that has a DHCP server. At Indiana University Bloomington and IUPUI, you must use DHCP in campus housing.

Note: The following assumes you are using Mac OS X 10.1 or later.

  1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences....

  2. In System Preferences, from the View menu, select Network.

  3. In the menu next to "Show:", select the Ethernet option, usually termed either Ethernet or Built-in Ethernet.

  4. Click the TCP/IP tab, and next to "Configure IPv4:" or "Configure:", select Using DHCP.

  5. In the "Search Domains:" field, enter the suffixes of domains you frequently access. At IUB, enter the following: ucs.indiana.edu indiana.edu iu.edu iub.edu uits.indiana.edu

    At IUPUI, enter the following:

    iupui.edu iu.edu
  6. Click the Apply Now button. You will immediately be able to use your network connection.
