Printing in the IU STCs and RTCs
At Indiana University Bloomington
Printers in the UITS Student Technology Centers (STCs) and Residential Technology Centers (RTCs) at IUB are for academic purposes only, and are primarily intended for students. Faculty and staff may use IU printing facilities, provided their use supports the instructional mission of the university.
The Student Technology Fee funds printing allotments for student printing in the STCs and university libraries. UITS funds a standard allotment of 200 pages per semester for faculty members, which is honored in the RTCs as well as the STCs. For staff who need ongoing access to the STCs, departments may purchase annual printing accounts that provide allotments of 200 pages each semester (fall, summer, and spring), for $24 per year. For more, see STC printing allotments at IUB.
If you live in campus housing, you have 100 extra pages added to your allotment for printing in the RTCs. This 100-page allotment applies whether you are a student, faculty member, or staff member, as long as you live in campus housing.
Anyone with a valid IUB Network ID may purchase a supplemental allotment through the UITS Support Center walk-in location.
STC printing guidelines
-
Please limit printing to 50 pages at a time. This
will prevent long lines forming at the printer while users wait for
one person to print mass quantities of output. To continuously print
large documents, use one of the following Special I/O Facilities at IUB, which
are always staffed when they are open with consultants who can assist
with individual printing needs:
- Business 415
- Education 2011
- Information Commons (call 812-855-3802, 24 hours)
- Lindley Hall 026
- Student Building 222
-
Do not reuse paper in any STC printer. Reusing
paper that has previously been heated in a laser printer can cause
jamming or irreparable harm to printers, even those designed for
two-sided (duplex) printing. Use the recycle bins in the centers to
dispose of any unwanted output.
-
Do not use special paper such as resume paper or envelopes
except in a Special I/O Facility. (See above.)
- Do not print on labels or transparencies. These can harm the STC printers. For labels or transparencies, visit Copies & More, or ask your department about available instructor resources.
